Knowing I needed to get a bit more height on the board, I took the opportunity for a reprise of a walk I’d done a few times before. This time starting from the main car park in Castleton, and heading out up Cave Dale along the Limestone Way to the track at the top. Turning right and right again, passing Rowter Farm above the entrance to Titan cave, the deepest cave shaft in Britain, and dropping back down to the road that climbs up through Winnats Pass out of Castleton.
Crossing Windy Knoll (and it was a bit breezy) before a mercifully short but always steep climb up and onto the summit of the Iron Age hill fort of Mam Tor. Continuing along the Great Ridge to Hollins Cross I thought briefly about continuing on to Lose Hill, but I’m afraid my bladder and the need to empty it won the argument so I descended back to the car park and the toilets by Hollowford Road.
