14 in 2014

I came up with the #14in2014 concept in a rare lightbulb moment during the Christmas break thinking about what challenge I could set myself for the year ahead. I wanted to set myself a challenge that would both give me a focus for the year, broaden my horizons and my experiences, get me fitter and out in the hills regularly and raise some funds for charity in the process. So my #14in2014 challenge is simple.  It is to climb 14 mountains in Great Britain that I have never climbed and summited before.  They are a diverse range and cover locations right across the country.  I will be writing articles about each one and photographing them with the aim of producing a calender for 2015. Click on each of these pictures for reports on each one so far…

Throughout the whole project, I want to raise funds for two connected organisations who represent the most incredible, brilliant and totally committed volunteers, Mountain Rescue England and Wales and Mountain Rescue Scotland. If you would like to donate to either of these most worthy of charities, please visit my two Just Giving pages, here for England and Wales, and here for Scottish sister organisation. Thats my challenge, but then I started to think about what other people might do with the #14in2014 concept.  Some people might decide to visit 14 new places, go to and watch 14 fixtures in 14 different sports, enter 14 events, cook 14 new menus or learn to play 14 new songs.  It doesn’t really matter as long as they’re new, planned and there’s 14 of them… I’ve set up a facebook group to help people share ideas, stories and photographs, and there should be a dedicated website for the project soon too. So lets share, inspire, be inspired and enjoy all of our #14in2014, whatever they may be…!
